A Ribbon in the Sky

There was some lingering romance on New York City's S/S 2016 runways. And it came in the form of ribbons and flowing streamers. In a most unusual way these decorative motifs represent hope, joy and a joi de vivre....for there is no feeling of freedom better represented by free flowing fabric in the wind. We have all experienced the ecstatic bliss of warm wind rustling our hair and caressing our bodies. It all started with Givenchy's languid luxe satin streamers dangling in the back or trailing from sensually sweet blouses and soft jackets. Proenza Schouler choose these bits of frill to fasten lightweight tunics, dresses and gowns while Peter Copping at Oscar indulged in the romantic aristocracy of elongated ribbon in the hair, on capelets and as embellishment on gowns. Ribbons and streamers, for all their fancy and fluff, possess a power of serenity, grounding us in the indomitable American spirit of freedom, hope and joy.
